Safety Best Practices Our Learning Centers Follow

Handing your child to someone else each morning takes a lot of trust, and that’s something we never take lightly. No curriculum, amenities, or discounts can replace the peace of mind that comes from knowing your child is safe, supported, and cared for like one of our own.

That’s why we take pride on being a “safety-first” learning community. For over 50 years, our mission has stayed the same: to create a place where children feel secure, loved, and excited to learn, but also one where parents feel at ease when they walk out our doors each morning.

While it’s hard to put into words every single way we commit to your child’s safety, there are several best practices we follow to ensure a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for every child at each Jelly Bean Junction location.

  1. We keep classrooms small. One of the biggest ways we keep children safe is by maintaining teacher-to-child ratios that meet State of Ohio requirements. This means we always have eyes watching, hands ready to help, and the ability to give your child individualized attention. Complying with State of Ohio ratio requirements also helps ensure your child is never “just one of many” here. We know them by name, know their interests, and know what makes them feel comfortable and secure.

  2. We employ teachers that are trained, experienced, and deeply caring. Our teachers are more than just caregivers; they’re educators who genuinely love what they do. From our infant rooms to our preschool classrooms, our staff is trained to support children’s physical safety, emotional well-being, and development. We invest in ongoing training so our teachers feel confident handling everything from everyday classroom moments to unexpected situations. Most importantly, they take the time to build real relationships with the children in their care.

  3. We meet (and exceed) safety and licensing standards. Every Jelly Bean Junction location is fully licensed by the State of Ohio and participates in quality programs like Ohio Step Up to Quality. These standards ensure we’re doing things the right way, but we don’t stop there. We’re always looking for ways to go above and beyond to keep our environments safe and supportive.

  4. We emphasize cleanliness. Clean spaces matter, especially for little ones! Young children explore the world with their hands, so cleanliness is something we take seriously. Our classrooms are cleaned nightly, toys are sanitized daily, and we also teach children about germs and staying healthy. We work hard to reduce the spread of germs so children can focus on learning and playing.

  5. We store medications and cleaning supplies safely. All medical and cleaning supplies are securely stored and always kept out of children’s reach. Medical and cleaning supplies are safely stored and always away from the children in our care (emergency and daily medications are stored in the same room as the child should an emergency arise). When medication needs to be administered, we maintain strict guidelines and work closely with our families to understand each child’s daily medical needs.

  6. We’re prepared for emergency scenarios. Emergencies are rare, but preparation matters. We have comprehensive emergency plans in place, practicing fire drills, evacuation procedures, and emergency protocols regularly so that if something unexpected happens, we can respond calmly and quickly while keeping children safe.

  7. We believe in open, honest communication. We see childcare as a partnership. Families know their children best, and we value open communication every step of the way. We’re always here to answer questions, share updates, and talk through your child’s day, from the good moments to the tough ones.

  8. We restrict building access. The only way into a Jelly Bean Junction learning center is through a designated code that parents can access through their ProCare app. This code is also changed frequently to ensure only those currently employed or currently registered at one of our locations can enter.

  9. We maintain safe environments, always. Finally, our centers are physically safe with properly maintained equipment, including all furniture and playground equipment. Additionally, every decision we make inside our classrooms, even when planning special events, starts with one question: Is this safe for our children?

Our schools are family owned and operated, with over 50 years of combined experience in early childhood education, and we’d love the opportunity to show you what Jelly Bean Junction feels like in person. We invite you to visit any of our Jelly Bean Junction learning centers near you to learn more about our safety best practices and to take a tour of our classrooms.
